On April 4, 2024, a group of faith leaders gathered to produce this statement in the light of continuing tragic events in the Middle East.

Leaders of diverse faiths, whose love and respect for one another has blossomed over many years, were able to come to a consensus despite differing opinions and tragic realities.
Faith leaders have a unique gift to give to the world: the ability to model a deep level of understanding, the power of forgiveness, and collaboration in our mutual quest for peace and justice.
Statement on the Middle East
Every life is precious and even one lost in conflict is too many.
We bear witness
We bear witness to the loss of tens of thousands of Palestinians and thousands of Israelis, many of whom are innocent children, women, and elderly individuals who have no involvement in the conflict. Every person who cherishes peace longs to halt the tragic loss of innocent lives, secure the release of Israeli hostages, and reunite displaced and imprisoned individuals on both sides with their families. Any atrocities committed against civilians is unacceptable and anyone unlawfully held against their will should be freed.
In our own country, there has been a sharp increase in Antisemitism and a rise in Islamophobia since October of 2023.
We pray
Real peace can only be achieved through love, respect, dignity, and autonomy. As an interfaith council we are all praying for, yearning for true peace for everyone in the Middle East and around the world.
We act
As emotions run high during these challenging times, it is incumbent upon us, as members of the Interfaith Council, to advocate for a peaceful resolution. We pray for the dead, the recovery of the injured, and comfort to everyone affected by the war.
We urge the government of Canada to seek ways to initiate a negotiated ceasefire and a renewal of efforts towards a permanent peace.
We continue to pray
We pray for the current leadership on all sides, including our own country’s, that they may be instruments of peace. May hearts be transformed so that a lasting peace may be possible.

Dear Friends:
The Interfaith Council of Halton was created in the wake of 911, a time of international turmoil, to bring together people who believe that we can live in peace and harmony.
Our world is again hurting seriously and we are gathering as a group of likeminded individuals simply to pray for peace. If you share our hope, please join us on Saturday, 28 October at Oakville Town Hall at 1 PM for a short rally and time of prayer. No politics, just prayer.
Please share this event.

Members of the interfaith council gather to share words of peace in response to the war in Israel and Gaza. We had people from all walks of life, and we pray the word will spread throughout the community.
“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!”

COVID-19 MESSAGE
The Interfaith Council of Halton is fully supporting the Province of Ontario’s plan to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is following the protocol and guidance to practice social distancing.
We are monitoring the situation closely for our Peace Camp in July and will keep you posted as information becomes available. During these unprecedented times, we should turn to our families, friends and communities for rays of hope. Despite the requirements of physical distancing, acts of kindness, no matter how small, ultimately bring us closer together.
“…However difficult matters are at present, and however close to the limits of their endurance some sections of societies are brought, humanity will ultimately pass through this ordeal, and it will emerge on the other side with greater insight and with a deeper appreciation of its inherent oneness and interdependence. May your minds be ever bent upon the needs of the communities to which you belong, the condition of the societies in which you live, and the welfare of the entire family of humanity, to whom you are all brothers and sisters.”

The film is the centerpiece of a platform for creating conversations about what connects us and what keeps us apart.
With this film, we set out to tell stories of a diverse cast of characters who are on some level experiencing prejudice. While they are from various backgrounds, in that deep place inside, they are all essentially one… and we are one with them. My personal hope for this film is to expose that sacred place inside where beyond the clouded isms of race, religion, class, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance—lies a place of light, warmth, hope, and pure love called the human soul.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_button button_url=”https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/me-the-other-a-documentary-film-about-diversity-tickets-86185811081″ url_new_window=”on” button_text=”Buy Tickets” button_alignment=”center” _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_button=”on” button_text_color=”#FFFFFF” button_bg_color=”#000000″ button_font=”||||||||” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ disabled_on=”on|on|on” admin_label=”Event Two” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_color=”#ffffff” top_divider_style=”curve” top_divider_color=”rgba(232,232,232,0.94)” top_divider_height=”10px” top_divider_arrangement=”above_content” disabled=”on” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row column_structure=”2_5,3_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://interfaithcouncilhalton.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/event-2020Feb-07-OB-Poster.jpg” align=”center” force_fullwidth=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”30px||” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ header_font=”||||||||” header_2_font=”||||||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#9d1b32″ header_3_font=”||||||||” header_3_text_align=”center” header_3_text_color=”#f18e26″ custom_padding=”30px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”]

The Golden Rule of treating others the way we would like to be treated, which is shared by all religions, is a primary example that demonstrates this principle.

First Interfaith Peace Camp in Halton a big success

During the inaugural session of the Halton Interfaith Peace camp, which took place in Oakville from July 9-13, 2018, campers came to Shaarei-Beth El synagogue to learn about Judaism.
The Interfaith council of Halton has in its mission the goal of bringing people of different faiths together for education and fellowship, but it was even more important after the shooting at a mosque in Quebec in January of 2017.

“The Interfaith Council of Halton is a body created at a previous time of violence to stand together in peaceful solidarity, to educate against attitudes and actions which would divide us. Our hearts are broken: we are shocked, saddened and seriously disturbed by this horrendous outburst of violence and ask humbly to walk with the Jewish Community in and beyond Halton as they try to come to terms with such an onslaught of violence and hatred.
The killings, kidnappings and all manner of devastation visited on the Jewish Community by Hamas can never be justified. Such violence only leads to escalation in which many Israeli and Palestinian people have suffered already and will continue to suffer. That this should come as the Jewish Community prepared to celebrate Simchat Torah, a festival of Rejoicing in God’s in God’s Law, makes it even more heinous.
Interfaith Council members share a belief that we are all called in our respective faiths to live together in peace and harmony with each other; thus we can never support any attack against the other.
We plead for all people of any faith to reject the potential for this dreadful attack to escalate into wider acts of violence.
May we renew our commitment to find the way back to dialogue as the only acceptable path to a future where peace and hope can reign. Let us stand together strongly linked by the Ethic of Reciprocity which states that each of us is called to treat each other in the manner that we would hope to be treated.”
